Lane Stagger Calculator — Track Lane Stagger Distances
Calculate the stagger distance for each lane on a standard athletics track.
How We Calculate This
Lane Stagger Calculation
Stagger distance is calculated from the difference in circumference between lanes:
Lane 1 Radius = Inner Radius + 0.30m
Lane n Radius = Inner Radius + (n-1) x Lane Width + 0.20m
Stagger = Number of Bends x pi x (Lane n Radius - Lane 1 Radius)
A standard 400m outdoor track has 2 bends (semicircles), an inner radius of 36.5m and lane widths of 1.22m (IAAF standard).
